5-26-16 FOURTH OF JULY ADOld Fashioned 4th of July Celebration Get a selfie with Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty! They’ll be part of everything you’d expect to celebrate the red, white and blue from 5 to 8 p.m. behind Gates Memorial Library on the campus of Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

Festivities will conclude with a splash of fireworks at 9 p.m. on July 4. The college, Motiva and city of Port Arthur will sponsor fun including an apple pie baking contest at 5:30 p.m.; Kids Bike & Wagon Parade at 6:30 p.m.; and patriotic entertainment. Celebrate the nation’s independence with face painting and outdoor games such as washers, volleyball, horse shoes, ladder golf, sack races, ring toss and more. The Commercial Music Department at LSC-PA will have a DJ on hand for music. A local Boy Scout troop will open the event with the posting of the flag colors and guests will hear the National Anthem. Gather near the Gazebo. Parking will be available at the old Woodrow Wilson school. Vendors will include Kona Ice Snow Cones. To go along with a patriotic parade, there is a Kids Bike & Wagon Decorating contest. Kids ages 12 and younger can decorate a bike or wagon in patriotic attire. Judges will award trophies for Most Creative and Most Patriotic.
